HOW CAN WE HELP ?

Consultancy

We can provide consultancy services across a broad spectrum, concentrating primarily within the IBM arena we offer services in WebSphere, Db2 (LUW) IBM i (iSeries, AS/400), and areas of considerable expertise in many of the complementary services.

Projects

Need help with a particular piece of work ? Perhaps our experience can help. We have delivered many successful pieces of work, working in collaboration within existing teams. We can also work in isolation to deliver a single discreet piece of work. We're flexible and can work with yourselves to achieve a desirable outcome.

Niche

Sometimes experience is what really matters. When a small, but pertinant problem or issue, needs addressing, obtaining the right people with the right mixture of experience, technical knowledge and a real world view on practicalities can be of real value. If you have such a problem, consider discussing this with ourselves, we may be able to help. Niche, obscure, one-off problems are what really makes us tick.

JOAARD (/ʤɔːd/)

I run my own (UK) limited company, offering my knowledge, experience and skills where I can. I work on projects small and large (and everything in between), individual pieces of work, within small teams or large teams, enterprise operations and international companies with a world wide presence.

If you think we could help, drop us a line (no obligation)?

Open a conversation, maybe we can help, perhaps we can't, but perhaps point you in the right direction to achieve your goals.

Me

Many years ago I learned how to type hexadeciaml digits into a circuit board, I didn't know at the time it was machine code! I began programming in BASIC on Commodore Pets, and then peeking and poking a bit, I was hooked.

I started my career learning and programming an IBM System/36 and RPG II. Quickly moving onto AS/400's. Around 2K the IT world was all talking Java, object orientation and all that, but a 128bit object orientated operating system from the late 80's ? That's an AS/400. You can call it by other names, but to me it's an AS/400.

So as I said, around 2K Java arrived and with it came IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) V1. Getting WAS to run on an model d10 with 16MB of memory was a challenge! This was a completely new concept - not having enough memory! I wrote S/36 RPG programs that ran in 24KB, 64KB was actually the maximum. This Java language needed 100's of not just KB's but MB's.

Around the same time came IBM's Net.Commerce, and an introduction to DB2, remember Bike Builder and Net.Data? The dot.com bubble was born (burst!). Net.Commerce became WebSphere Commerce Suite, with WebSphere Studio and the Performance Pack. and I've been working with all this for the best part of 20 years now.

IBM's move to Kubernetes with WCS V9 enbraces the general move towards cloud adoption by many companies, and the recent sale of WCS to HCL further molds the future of WCS. DB2 (now Db2) and WAS stay with IBM so the future is something yet to be defined . . .
